The Harris Chain of Lakes  -   Click here for map

The Harris (Oklawaha) Chain consists of 9 lakes and boasts over 76,000 acres of extremely fertile water.   The lakes contain a primary cover of Kissimmee grass, eel grass, lily pads, reeds and bulrushes.  This is home to some of the biggest largemouth bass in Florida with 10 pounders being angled on a regular basis.  Speckled perch (crappie), blue gills, and redear sunfish (shellcracker) also abound in the chain.

Cruising the Dead River and the Dora Canal is a popular way to view the breathtaking beauty and abundant wildlife. The canals are lined with towering cypress trees, some being 2,000 years old. The waters are a haven for otters, ospreys, herons, egrets, cranes, water moccasins, and alligators.  Hollywood was so struck with the area, they filmed portions of the Humphrey Bogart classic “African Queen” along the Dora canal. In the 1930's Grantland Rice, dubbed "The Dean of American Sports Writers", called the canal the most beautiful half-mile of water in the world.

The cities of Eustis and Mt. Dora are other popular stops.  Boaters can dock free along the waterfront and walk to restaurants and the downtown shopping area.  Boat Club members receive a 10% discount at the Palm Tree Grille in picturesque Mt. Dora.

Have lunch on the deck and enjoy live entertainment on the weekends at the Lake Harris Hideaway.

If you're looking for "Old Florida" atmosphere, a million dollar view, and great food, J. B. Boondock's Bar & Grill on Little Lake Harris is the place for you.
